Music Monday: Get up and go

I'm straying from the one-artist thing yet again and going for an overarching theme, which, this week, is music to work out/walk/skip to. I'm not doing much of that kind of thing these days, lazy cow that I am, but when I do, this is what I'm listening to on my iPod. Be forewarned, there is no disco here, no 80s bubblegum pop. If I'm going to exercise, I'd better be listening to hard rock or rap/hip hop. I'm so street it hurts. Now, I know this audience isn't the hip hop type, so feel free to scratch this off as a wasted Music Monday.

Lil Kim: The Jump Off

Iggy and the Stooges: I Wanna Be Your Dog (audio only)

Sex Pistols: Anarchy in the UK

N.E.R.D. : Rockstar (audio only)

System of a Down: Toxicity

Pharrell feat. Gwen Stefani: Can I Have It Like That

Jay-Z: Dirt Off Your Shoulders (audio only - all video was unembeddable, which yes, is now a word)

Jay-Z: 99 Problems

Arctic Monkeys: I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

The Dropkick Murphys: I'm Shipping Up to Boston

The Knife: Heartbeats

The Libertines: What a Waster (audio only)

Mint Royale feat. Lauren Laverne: Don't Falter

The Von Bondies: C'mon C'mon

The White Stripes: Hotel Yorba

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Pin

What are your high energy choices?

To end this Music Monday on a high note, guess who is going to see JAMES next Saturday night? Yes, me. Going to see James. Please tell me how jealous you are so I can gloat.

Ach, Pete D looks so bloody cute up there. And the guy is So gonna die young. Never seen the Lil Kim vid before, how the hell does she bop about with that bloody great piece of metal clonking her in the sternum? I mean, I totally get suffering in the name of art, but that thing's gotta be causing injury.

You've just reminded me, my mate's had my Best of James cd for a fuckin' decade. I can barely remember the cover, it's been that long. Flowers, I believe. Sounds about right! Some of the best jaunty lyrics of all time. My therapist said not to see you no more...

Couldn't really get into the tunes, but I'm loving your TGIF cartoon from last week.

Dude, Music Mondays just remind me how much I've fallen out of the music world. I need to have you come over and fill my iTunes for me.

Holy shit, I forgot about N.E.R.D.'s "Rockstar". Must download that pronto.

I get moving to the Mavericks "Dance the Night Away". Judge if you must.

Could not be better timed -- my workout playlist needs an overhaul. Sex Pistols kinda makes me want to raise a lighter and put back a shot, but I can see moving parts to the rest.

My mix is a bit blah to me, anyway: Killers, Ben Harper, Modest Mouse, etc., etc., etc.

Yeah, when I run, it has to be crazy agressive hardcore rap or hip hop. Lately, I've been grooving to Tribe Called Quest (not so hardcore, but still...), though I've thrown in a bit of the Durty Souf via some Luda and some Outkast (just to take myself back a few years...).
However, I did unusually decide to just put the iPod on shuffle and see what came out when I worked out yesterday, and I was totally crying and singing along with the third movement (the Adagio) of Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony. It was totally embarrasing when the husband came home earlier than expected from the grocery, and came into the bedroom to ask me why I was yelling, "SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL"... fun, that one.

But yeah. I'm totally digging on your selections here.

No day is wasted if it includes Iggy and the Stooges.

The Dropkick Murphys???! Dood. I love you. In a totally non-creepy, non-stalkerish kind of way. I love that band. I've taught Boo to love that particular song - it's a favourite, not only because they're local boys made good, but because the band, and this song, are part and parcel of seeing the Red Sox (well, when Papelbon is the closer). Besides, what's not to like - it's a song about finding a wooden leg. You don't hear that every day.
