Housekeeping

Note to self...posts regarding feminism go down like a lead balloon. Avoid any mention of the "f" word ever again. However, still free to use "fuck" librally and as often as possible.

I don't have one straightforward topic to talk about now that I have the "f" issue out of my system, so I figure I'll just use this opportunity to talk about a few different things, with no reliance on segue.

Pussaries...still wondering what their deal is. I push it in as far back as I can, yet the bulk of it just spills out eventually. Given this rather irritating and gross situation, what is the point of pussaries? I can't imagine there is much of the progesterone left where it needs to be, so I'm just shoving shit up there for the hell of it. Also, we're technologically advanced now. Why can there just not be a pill form of these cursed things?

Pussary pt 2: Despite my insistance that he would regret it, The Dude insisted upon fornication post-pussary. I was not surprised when he later complained that his penis became all smooth and waxy. I called him Ol' Wax Cock, but luckily for him evidence of the pussary was dispatched of quickly. Some of us are not so lucky says old Crusty Wax Pants over here.

I have an extraordinarily stupid question. I know this will likely give fodder to those who rebel against my ignorance is bliss IF policy, but the hell with it. I have a fear that my period will show up significantly before the end of the 2ww. In previous IUIs it has emerged about 11 days post IUI, so there was no tension regarding testing on the 14th day. However, it has also been the case that after 15 days post-IUI my period has still been incommunicado, yet the pregnancy test was, of course, negative. So my question is...when someone has unpredictable cycles, a la fucked up women with PCOS, posterior ovaries, tilted cervix and occasionally invisible uterus, how does the doctor know when they have ovulated? My concern is that given that my periods are regular in their irregularity, how do I know if the IUI was done even remotely close to ovulation? I asked Good Lady Cooter Poker this once, and she looked at me as if I asked her how babies are made. I don't know, perhaps I'm embarrassing myself yet again by asking it.

I have selected my "End of 2ww-->negative pregancy test/period that arrives right after blindingly white second window is viewed" music. Unlike those who like to be uplifted when they are depressed, I prefer to wallow in the doldrums. I like it down there. Happy shit when I'm depressed just makes me homicidal. So yes, I will be listening to Antony and the Johnson's Hope There's Someone over and over and over again. Sometimes it's Johnny Cash (god bless his dressed in black little soul), other times it's a mixture of The Smiths/Morrissey and The Cure. I know what you're thinking...I know how to have a good time.

Finally, I've added some new links to my blogroll. Some are new voices, others have been around awhile and I've somehow managed to miss out on them. Go and leave them some comments, because deep down, you know we're all comment whores.

Can't help you on the questions but I loved your Feminism post. I saw my pathetic un-clomid stimulated polycystic ovaries today on the scan and they made me sick. Why won't they behave?

Are you putting the pussaries in at night before you go to sleep?? I'd have thought that would help with the leakage....

And did the waxy cock look like a dildo???

Oops...I forgot to mention the pussary at night thing, since others have mentioned it before. I am lucky enough to have to use 2 per day, so the last one I put in right before bed, but the first one of the day has to be put in at work. Those bathroom stalls have never seen such action.

Call me Stupid McDumbass, but can't they tell from the ultrasound if you've ovulated? If not, there must be some blood test they can run, right?

Ol Wax Cock.... Love it!

Wait -- you had sex? Why wasn't I informed of this?

From what I understand (those of you who have actually HAD IUIs can straighten me out if I'm wrong), after all of the follicle monitoring, the HCG shot you give yourself (the "trigger" shot) is what induces ovulation. Right? That's how they know you ovulated - they had you trigger.

Am I talking out of my ass?

And also, answer Manuela's question.

My cycle naturally runs anywhere from 31 to 55 days. Lucky me. The only way they ever knew if I had ovulated was if they gave me a shot to make me do so.

Also, OPKs do not work on me. Yay!

Sorry about the pussaries, I know they are terrible.

Only speaking from my own experience... Before a IUI I always had a dildocam session where they measured my folicle and when it was big enough, I would get the hcg trigger shot, meaning I would ovulate around 36 hours later. That's how they knew I ovulated... But I never got a regular LP on these cycles, getting my period from 11 days post-IUI to 17 days... And OPKs never worked on me either, as it often doesn't work with PCOS.

Good luck with the pussaries and with this cycle!

The trigger shot pretty much guarentees ovulation in about 36 hours. Plus they can tell when you are close and if you did with the good old ultrasound. The progesterone is supposedly absorbed pretty quick, so you do get the medicine. And there is a pill form. In the US it's Prometrium (which can be swallowed or shoved up the hoo-ha) but most RE's prefer the shoving method.

I too have been seriously wondering if I ovulated this cycle. I've asked twice now, the first time they checked my progesterone level and said yes, I had (it was 4.7, which I think is borderline, but what do I know). The second time they said 'what are you going to do if you haven't?' to which I responded nothing, I just want to know (and burst into tears), no lovin' that time. I wish they had offered me an ultrasound, I would have done it in a heartbeat!

Hey, Molly... did you notice she's ignorning our question?

Hey Pru... here's another pussary idea for you... what about inserting a menstrual cup after you insert the pussary... that way it can't escape until you decide... I've done this in the past for a non-if related pussary and it worked great!

The one I like to use can be found at www.divacup.com disregard the completely stupid name...

It looks like this ---->

Haha. Now if it's still an image of Johnny Cash, it didn't look like that. Happy now you pervs?

Nice, very nice. Love what you've done with the place. A few candles, a nice throw rug, and a giant dildo - really livens it up, doncha think?
Pru, I'm not terribly 'up' on pussaries, but what about a tampon? I haven't had to go that route yet, so I'm just wondering. I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason as to why that is a bad idea though. I get those alot. Bad ideas. Yeah. So. Nice cock.

They'll monitor your LH during an IUI and slow you down if it starts to surge indicating ovulation won't they? Then the hcg will make you ovulate.

As for the pussaries - ick - you can't do PIO over there?

No good advice as I'm worried about the same thing given my vanishingly short LP. Presumably the progesterone should hold it off, but then there's Mare's experience this month. Let me know what you find out!
