Music Monday: Heartbreak

Here I am, week three of focusing on the Guardian list. Yes, I lack originality, and I'm never very good at coming up with songs which fit a certain theme. Molly has now sworn off blogging altogether thanks to the rather...tepid response to her music about The Secks. Poor dear has retreated into absolute seclusion, stroking her budding creole tomatoes and trimming her newly sprouted herbs. "Blogging be damned!" she is heard to shout, shaking her tiny fists toward the forboding cajun skies. Poor dear.

In view of last week, this theme of heartbreak is for Molly, who no doubt if asked for her own contribution for this week would suggest her favourite ever song, "Achy Breaky Heart" by beloved, formerly bemulleted Billy Ray Cyrus. I, however, will be selecting more refined songs, thank you very much.

The Boy Done Wrong Again: Belle and Sebastian

Flume: Bon Iver

Lua: Bright Eyes

I Still Miss Someone: Johnny Cash (because there was always going to be Cash)

Crazy: Patsy Cline

Katie Cruel: Karen Dalton

Killing Moon: Echo and the Bunnymen

How Do You Mend a Broken Heart: Al Green

Devil Got My Woman: Skip James

Love Will Tear Us Apart: Joy Division

Let Me Down Easy: Bettye Lavette

Blue Monday: New Order

Crying: Roy Orbison

Jolene: Dolly Parton

I Know It's Over: The Smiths

Dry Your Eyes: The Streets

Use Me: Bill Withers

I hope you are sufficiently cheered up now.

I am very jolly now, thank you.

I can't believe so few people commented last time! (she said smug in the knowledge that she DID comment last time, hah hah!). Me, I think they were intimidated by the amazing recrudescence of the Marvellous Molly and hid their faces in awe.

As for this week, Johnny Cash! Roy Orbison! The Smiths! Bill Withers! Patsy Cline!

OK, have used up week's allowance of exclamation marks now. Should an alien vessel crashland on the roof of the British Museum, I shall just have to say 'oh.'

Incidentally, should you ever wish to make me SQUEEEEEEEE, and SQUEEEEEE like a sixteen-year-old, play Johnny Cash singing Bob Dylan, specifically 'It Ain't Me, Babe'.

Oh May, you make a flattered girl to giggle.

Great songs. "Jolene" makes me reel with excitement.

I would have to add a couple from that list -- as mentioned to you previously, David Bowie's "Letter to Hermione" (which nearly breaks my poor, cold Germanic heart every time I hear it, Abba's "The Winner Takes It All" (those suspended chord changes are just created to rip your guts apart), the mandolin intro to Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" (I'm a total nerd), and totally TLC's "No Scrubs." I love how Guardian considers it one of the best songs ever.

Patsy conquers all. The end.

Ok, i feel like a real turd for not checking out songs about teh secks last week (I was out of town! Does that count?), but I'd have to include: Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer (dunno why, makes me start to feel feverish), and Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On." Because it makes a girl wanna take of her drawers, is all I'm sayin'.

Need to find time to check out this here list.
